DESCRIPTION:Discover the amazing transformations of indigo\, the enchanting natural blue dye of centuries! On Saturday\, September 24\, fiber artist Jan Quarles will teach an introductory class on indigo and basic shibori techniques at GroWild\, one of the most beautiful natural settings in Middle Tennessee. \nIn class you’ll learn about the history of indigo as a dye and how it’s been used around the world. We will use two kinds of indigo vats and you will learn how to make a small one for home use. You’ll explore folding and clamping (itajime) and wrapping (arashi) techniques and learn about other techniques for making marks on natural fabrics. Your takeaway pieces will include two scarves and you’ll have plenty of fabric for practice. The class fee of $130 includes two scarves\, a yard of cotton fabric (for a bandana or cushion cover)\, and sampling fabrics as well as gloves\, notes\, a list of resources and extensive use of  shibori tools. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dye on (indigo can be a messy process) and bring your lunch. \nClass will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. \nPlease contact Jan Quarles with questions or to request a PayPal invoice to register for the class.
